Entrepreneur Publisher shares his letter to prospective client

One of the many things I do is publish with my firm Ask Publishing LLC.

I saw an opportunity in a series of messages my pastor recently presented and approached him with the following letter. I'm sharing it here before actually sending it so I can't tell you yet if we are working on the project together.

The reason why I'm sharing it here is to let you know that if you are a writer that I may be interested in publishing your (family-friendly) work.

Here's the letter I composed and sent; minus his contact details...

Pastor,

I would like to pass an idea by you and see what you think after giving it thought and prayer.

One of the things I do as an entrepreneur is publishing, and I would like to publish your Bible Moments that Changed the World Series as a book; Kindle, paperback, and perhaps an audiobook later on.

I’m not sure how having a published book after your ministry ... would be for you, but if you think having one would be worthwhile, I’d like very much to discuss it. This may not result in much money but both the proceeds and your message would become a legacy as well.

Essentially the process would work like this.

If you have everything in a Word document, I could use that with minimum editing (changing up phrases like “last week” to “in the last chapter”, etc.) If not, I would have your actual sermons transcribed and edited from that. You would then have the final touch before it is published.

I would strongly suggest that you add an Intro and also a concluding chapter to what you already have.

Pictures would be minimal if at all. I would suggest an “about the author” with your picture at the back of the book.

My company, Ask Publishing LLC would publish it on Amazon in both Kindle and Amazon’s paperback versions.

This would not be so much about money but your message. We should never approach a book project as a “big moneymaker” for either of us (there are fewer disappointments and only surprises that way). Most authors do not make any money with their books and only use them to promote other services. You can use the book as a “business card”, for giveaways, and also direct people to Amazon for purchase.

Doing a quick Google search, you’ll find that “Under standard royalties, an author gets roughly 20 to 30% of the publisher's revenue for a hardcover, 15% for a trade paperback, and 25% for an eBook. So, very roughly, every hardcover release that earns out brings the author something like 25% of all revenue earned by the publisher”. So if a book sells for $20, the publisher makes $5 and the author gets a buck from that five.

There is a lot of work to get your content into book form and published (see my The Chicken that Soared on Amazon) so if we choose to work together, we’ll split the profits 50/50 which maybe 50 cents to a buck a book; more or less. And since I’ll be working on this project while earning a living with other things, it may take 3 to 6 months to get this just right, and published.

There is more to discuss if you would like to move forward. All inspiration comes from above so I’m thinking that perhaps God gave me this idea, and I felt compelled to bring it to you.

I don’t know what your life plans are after ... and just how busy you may be immediately after leaving so if you want to table this to any time in the future, that’s fine too. However, if you have an interest in doing this, I suggest we start a discussion and I can get started doing things on my end.

Either way, let’s get together to discuss it.

Thanks for all and God bless!

Your brother in Christ,

Terry Lee Scott

Ponder Your Path, Recording your Own Thoughts as you Venture Through the Proverbs.

Perhaps you, like me, enjoy reading the Proverbs daily. For years I’ve made it a practice to start my day by reading or listening to one chapter from the book of Proverbs every morning. Sure I miss a day here and there, but for the most part, I’ve been consistent and am pleased to have seen “consistent” results in my prayer life and my life’s path.

Today is May 4th and so in Proverbs chapter 4 (today’s “assigned” chapter) in verse 26 one version states, "Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure."

I’ve been thinking of creating a companion aid for others who also read Proverbs on a daily basis to journal thoughts, prayers, inspirations, concerns and action points; and that verse became my very own action point to move me forward in the project and here I am typing these words to you at this very moment.

Here’s my recommendation on how to use this journal; you can add to it and customize it to make it your own.

You wake up and it’s the 4th of the month like it is right now for me. You turn to the fourth chapter of Proverbs and read the entire chapter. (Or you can listen to an audio version).

With this Ponder Your Path Companion Journal, write in any thoughts that come to you and anything you may want to change or do from what you “got” from this chapter. You may even want to review your notes throughout your day. You may want to choose one or two verses to really meditate on throughout the day. Like I said, you can customize this however you wish!

The next day is the 5th, so you repeat the process. The next day is the 6th but you oversleep and you have to rush to work or to start your day. Don’t “beat yourself up” for this, just start again tomorrow on day 7 and repeat the process. You’ll soon find yourself looking forward to your Proverbs “path”.

This journal is set up so whatever day it is today, you can start today on that date of the month. Don’t worry if you’ve already missed 20 days. Yeah, if it’s the 29th you might want to wait a few days! That brings me to another point. As you know some months have 30 days others have 31 (and February, my birthday month has 28). When you are in any 30 day month, you typically wouldn’t read the chapter of Proverbs 31; but you can if you want; again it is all that you desire!

Although this journal is good for 12 full months, if you’d like, you can use it over and over to repeat the process for several years by writing in any empty areas and margins by using a different colored ink. It’s fun, enlightening, and rewarding to revisit your thoughts you’ve previously written.

Visit this blog post frequently to share how you’ve used the journal, get my added thoughts (as I also, use this journal daily) and get any updates and cool stuff that I’m sharing.

I really appreciate you using my Ponder Your Path Journal and I trust that it will help you to learn the wisdom of Proverbs more and more.

Make it a great day!

Terry (Ter) Scott

Reading through the Bible in a year? Use this Companion Journal to record your thoughts and actions.

I'm pleased to present this companion journal to assist anyone who enjoys reading the Bible through in one year.

Look inside.

This page is to acquaint newcomers to the book and welcome back current and previous users to answer any questions, get your feedback, and reorders.

Most "Through the Bible in a Year" programs simply repeat every year with no or little change so you can use this journal for up to 3 years depending on whether you fill one of the three spaces for each date with just a few highlight points for each or you choose to complete the entire page using the journal for one year.

........................

What you are holding is a companion journal to any “Read through the Bible in 365 Days” program. My experience in reading (and now listening to audio) a number of good programs available, but I was always writing notes on 3 x 5 cards and sheets of paper but not capturing my thoughts and inspiration and recording them in note form organized in one place. So I created this 1 or 3-year journal.

Start any day of the year and date the first page as your first day that you start. Then I recommend to date the top of every page for up to four weeks; from that point. Don’t be concerned about what day of the week you start; just start. Just be sure that if you miss a day that you write on the appropriate date and page. Then the next year if you again continue through your journal, you’ll see which days you’ve missed, and learn things such as how dedicated you were and perhaps to be more disciplined in your commitment.

It’s really up to you if you want to start a new journal each year or if you’d like but if you jot down a few main points in the first section of each page for the first year, the middle of the page for your second year, and the bottom section for your third year. If you choose the 3-year method, you’ll “revisit” year’s one and two entries and learn from what you wrote. (You also have plenty of room to write in the margins and on the blank left pages).

Here is how I recommend using this journal.

·        Write the date of your first day’s entry with the Bible verses of the day on the topmost “bold” line displayed on the first page. (If you are using the journal for 3 years, leave the second and third “bold” lines empty for dates in the next two years).

·        Before you make an entry, write in the dates for the entire month, above or on the top bold line on each page. This will help with not mixing up the days in case you miss one or two here and there. When you miss a day, be sure to write on the correct page. (For instance, if you miss “Wednesday” do not put your “Thursday” notes on the “Wednesday” page. Leave it blank and go to the Thursday page. This might sound obvious, but I don’t want you to be stressed if you “mess” it up). Also, you may consider writing your entries in pencil for at least the first month so you can erase if you wrote on the wrong day!

·        Choose any “365 Day Read through the Bible” course you desire. But be sure to stick with one for the full three years if possible or you’ll find that the days may not correlate with each other on your journal pages. (That’s really not such a big deal if you don’t want to compare your thoughts on the same passages on years two and three or if you are only going to use your journal for one year). I suggest a few options for courses on my blog post which I’ll share later.

I may be forgetting something and I’m sure you’ll also have questions as you move forward so I set up a blog post where you can contact me with comments and questions. Scan the QR code below to visit. I use this journal myself so I may think of things as I go on do and I will share them with you in the blog post.

I hope you’ll enjoy your Through the Bible Companion Journal. Please let me know your comments and how you’ve used the Companion Journal.

Make it a great day!

https://asiwasreading.blogspot.com/2021/05/reading-through-bible-in-year-use-this.html #inspiration #motivation #success #writing Are you like me in that you enjoy and participate in a "Through the Bible in a Year" program? I've created a journal where you can use to get more from your experience. The price is a real bargain when you consider that the inspiration and ideas one can get from capturing them in one journal can be priceless; plus this record is designed to be used for up to 3 years if you desire. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Here is a brief summary of what to expect from The Chicken that Soared.

I hope you'll find it interesting enough to make your purchase. Enjoy!

The Mysterious Snoring Egg

Mother Chicken spends most of her time sitting on her eggs, One, Two, Three, and Four. One, Two, Three, and Four are the same color. One, Two, Three, and Four are the same size.  And One, Two, Three, and Four are all there, quietly sleeping in their shells.

After eating all she could, Mother Chicken returns to her dusty henhouse. Immediately she notices something different. The nest changed; the straw sits much higher. Gently she lifts the straw. There they are, One, Two, Three, Four, and … Five?  She counts again, One, Two, Three, Four…  And, yes, there IS an extra egg, egg Five!

Breaking News

Mother Chicken thinks Farmer Frank found Egg Five and placed it in her care. Mother Chicken loves her eggs, One, Two, Three, Four, and now Five, because it is what moms do. But Egg Five’s loud snoring sometimes keeps her awake.

Egg Five did not hatch on day four or day five. It just snored. Egg Five snores while Chick One, Chick Two, Chick Three, and Chick Four peep all day, every day. As if participating in one of Up and Down’s musical plays, a symphony of “peep”, “peep-peep”, “peep-peep-peep”, “peep-peep-peep-peep,” and “snore” fills the henhouse.

Chick One, Chick Two, Chick Three, and Chick Four stop their enthusiastic peeping; the entire audience totally awestruck. There, sitting in half a broken shell, rocks the biggest, oddest-looking chicken ever to hatch in Farmer Frank’s henhouse!

A New Name and a New Game

Chick One, Chick Two, Chick Three, and Chick Four did not always get along with their brother Chick Five. Chick Five did not always get along with his brothers, Chick One, Chick Two, Chick Three, and Chick Four.  Chick One, Chick Two, Chick Three, and Chick Four know Chick Five is a different. And Chick Five knew he was different.

He stands in front of a broken window pane leaning against the back side of the coop and, seeing his reflection, he states out loud, “I am Eagle One,” and it sounded terrific. He repeats again with more conviction, “I am Eagle One!” With this affirmation, Eagle One stands taller, shoulders back, head held high. Yes, this is excellent, and it is good he is alone to avoid any mocking about his dream. “A new name means a new game,” he declared. “Get ready world, I’m Eagle One!”

The Teacher Appears

It is humbling to be back, scratching and pecking in the dirt with Chicken One, Chicken Two, Chicken Three, and Chicken Four. On the outside, he plays the part of a chicken, but inside he flies like an eagle. Eagle One needs a secret place somewhere on Farmer Frank’s farm to practice his flying techniques without anyone around who wants to try to steal his dream.

“Don’t give up,” he hears a voice speak. “You are my hero!”

Seeing and Believing

Wriggling through the deep grass, Parks pops up, grunting as she approaches. Eagle One recognizes her as one of Pinky’s kids - the one who wears a stocking cap.

For the next several days, Eagle One trained under Parks’ guidance. Of course, it didn’t help when he arrived at his chicken home each night and Chicken One, Chicken Two, Chicken Three, and Chicken Four continue to mock him, “You can’t soar, you can only snore.” Parks counsels him to love them and to leave their words behind. He does not have to accept them as truth.

This motivational "fable-for-today" is about a baby eaglet who thinks he is a chicken destined to remain to scratch and pecking out a life every day in the yard with his siblings. One day he sees an Eagle high in the sky,  and he knows what he was supposed to do, but it will not be easy; that is until a teacher appears. Youth and adults ("kids with long legs") are inspired to discover their destiny, prepare for it (in spite of any obstacles and naysayers along their way), and then later when achieved, handle success with grace in this success saga. Eagle One's lessons learned will be appreciated by kids of all ages.

The Chicken that Soared, Life Lesson One: Every day is Mother's Day

Request to be on the launch team of the soon-to-be-published "The Chicken that Soared" (A fable for "kid" in all of us) and just for doing a few quick and simple things you'll get a free digital copy and a ton of other cool stuff. And oh, by the way, every day is Mother's Day.

Every day is “Mother’s Day”

Did you have a mother who cared and loved you so much that she watched over you “like a mother hen”? Maybe that wasn’t so bad. In the first chapter of The Chicken that Soared, Mother Chicken was a very caring mom.

Mother Chicken looks out from the window of her dusty, happy henhouse at the clouds and over the hills.

Mother Chicken spends most of her time sitting on her eggs, One,

Two, Three, and Four. One, Two, Three, and Four are the same color. One, Two, Three, and Four are the same size.  And One, Two, Three, and Four are all there. They are quietly sleeping in their shells.

Mother Chicken becomes hungry and wants to leave the henhouse to scratch in the dusty farmyard and find some food to eat. Before leaving, she makes sure that One, Two, Three, and Four are all there, all the same size, and are all quietly sleeping in their shells. She covers One, Two, Three, and Four with straw to keep them warm while she would be gone.

It doesn’t have to be Mother’s Day to tell your mom how much you love her. And you can be a young child like the chicks in The Chicken that Soared or you and your mother might be much older. Why not take your phone right now and give her a quick call or send her a little note. I know she’d appreciate it!

Did you like what you read? This is just a very small snippet of what I’m calling “Today’s Fable for Finding Your True Destiny”. To learn your true calling and purpose while young is the best but I find that many like myself spend most of their lives as “wandering generalities” to some degree and that’s why The Chicken that Soared really is for the “kid in all of us”. I hope you feel as I do the power of purpose and the importance of instilling this in youth so much that you’ll read the fable yourself and also to the “youth” in your life.

JOIN OUR PRELAUNCH TEAM and get the book free!

If you would like to help me in this mission, I am creating a “launch group” to give the book a boost on the day and week it is published. If accepted into the launch group, you’ll get the digital version of the book for free a few days before the launch. Then on the day of the launch, you’ll order the book from Amazon (while it is available for free). I’ll give you a link and picture to share on your social media to tell your friends it is available free for a short time.

After you’ve ordered your book, please give me your honest review (not on Amazon) and I’ll send you a “frame-able” print of the book cover as my gift.

This will be a lot of fun and won’t take any time at all really. I’ll probably add some other cool stuff for the launch team because I like giving things away.

To be considered to be on the launch team and find out when the publish date is and all the exciting things, use the contact form on this page and simply tell me why you want to be part of the team with your name and email.
